3040. The Politics of Language. 3 hours. Study of the inevitable interactions between language use, and the displays and distribution of power among speakers. Course focuses on what constitutes political speech - be it the in the privacy of individualsÂ¿ interactions, or in the more public arena of institutions, or group management. It is in the context of the tripartite sub-classification of power, politics, and structure that the course investigates the role of language in producing and reinforcing unequal relations of dominance in society.
