CSD 1200 - Intellectual & Development Disabilities
This course presents an overview of issues pertaining to children and adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). Students will interact with individuals with IDD, family members of individuals with IDD, and professionals who work with individuals with IDD. The content of this course addresses communication needs, relationship with the broader community, lifespan and health issues, genetics, assessment and intervention, literacy, historical and legal perspectives, adaptive arts and theater, disabilities in the media, social life and sexuality, issues specifically relevant to aging, and controversial topics. Assignments include writing exercises, speaking exercises, and problem-based learning. This course is offered in the spring.
