MDL 3011 - Middle Level Practices and Planning for Instruction

Description
The course introduces the concept of "middle school philosophy" and how it affects the development of a comprehensive educational program in a middle school. Some of the middle school components addressed include: teaming, interdisciplinary and exploratory curriculum, block scheduling, advisory program, instructional strategies based on constructivism and other learning theories, cooperative learning, and assessment strategies appropriate for the classroom. In addition, this course provides initial instruction in the creation of a learning unit. The student will learn the principles of backward design, which focuses on student learning outcomes before instructional activities are created. The student will learn how this design framework supports current research on learning. - Prerequisite Definition: To take this course you must: Be enrolled in the following Plan MDL-BSED.
