JUDC 3028 - Women in the Bible

Description
Women appear throughout the Bible as significant characters, the subjects of entire books, and legal entities. We meet them as “helpmates, harlots, and heroes” to quote one scholar, as well as mothers, sisters, prophets, adulterers, queens, and midwives. By applying various tools and techniques for critically analyzing Scriptures, we both deepen our understanding of particular biblical women and also critically examine more general issues of gender, power, marginalization, and patriarchy. Such analysis reveals the often undetected biblical influence on the construction of contemporary social systems while simultaneously providing the impetus and ingredients to interrogate and positively transform these social systems.
