CVE 6045 - Heavy Highway Estimating

Description
This is a hands-on and immersive cost estimating course with a focus on heavy highway cost estimating. The course will expose students to the systems and components of highway projects. The course will typically cover modifications to existing roadway systems, drainage systems, erosion controls, roadway pavement structure, retaining walls, and bridges using construction drawings and specifications from real-life projects. In this course, students will get an integrated view of the various aspects of civil engineering, they will learn about how the various systems and components are constructed, they will learn about the various types of cost estimates and when to use them, students will learn about cost estimating practices, they will learn to read the construction drawings and specifications, students will learn to conduct accurate quantity takeoffs, and learn to estimate the price for different items of work. Irrespective of a student’s preferred area of interest or whether a student prefers to work for a construction firm or a design firm, this is a must-have course for civil engineering and construction management students interested in gaining in-depth knowledge in heavy highway cost estimating. - Prerequisite Definition: To take this course you must: Be at least a Graduate.
