Description
Examination of the development of the field of American Studies from its beginnings in the 1930s to the present. Study of the field's relationship to twentieth-century social movements and related theoretical categories. Discussion of techniques of archival research, qualitative methods, and of literary and cultural criticism underlying interdisciplinary methods in American Studies. Prerequisite: Junior or Senior standing or by consent; open to non-majors by permission of instructor.
