It's important to attend the lectures as there are only 4 tests and they are all heavily lecture based. There are also a number of articles/chapters sent out but as long as you stay on top of it, it's not too bad. He makes it clear in class if there are particular topics that are important for the exam and there are review sessions before the exam.

If you are someone who can memorize lecture notes (heavy auditory learner), I think you will love this prof. I am like that and got A's on all of the tests without doing any of the required readings/ textbook. You are graded only on 4 tests and he does get distracted in class. I think his lectures are interesting and it wasn't hard for me
