SPAN 3343 - Political & Econ Culture Of Latin America:Dictators & Democracies

Description
After a brief overview of the history of the area, students will move into a more focused study of the political and economic development of a particular region. Topics of inquiry will include authoritarianism, economic development, revolution, neoliberal reform and democracy. Comparative analysis of the political and economic culture of different countries within the region, as well as their relationship to the United States, will be included. Prerequisite: Placement score of at least 550 or completion of 6 hours of intermediate courses (SPAN 2312, 2326, 2325 or 2351) with a grade of C or better. Students in a 2000 level course beyond 2312 may enroll concurrently with permission of instructor.
