MUHI 1302 - Introduction to Music in World Societies

Description
Introduces students to musics from a diverse range of cultures, in addition to themes and issues in contemporary musical research. The first portion of the course provides a general introduction to case studies of music traditions from around the world, highlighting the contexts of music production in cultural and geographic regions. The final portion of the course applies this cultural knowledge in analytical contexts to broader discussions of indigeneity, nationalism, diaspora, traditions, and globalization. Class Notes: Open to Music majors and minors only.
