Intensive study of one or more major 19th century American authors such as James Fenimore Cooper, Catharine Maria Sedgwick, Frederick Douglass, Walt Whitman, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Emily Dickinson, or Mark Twain.
