HEBREW 3245 - Israeli Film & Society

Description
A survey of Israeli films from 1948 to the present day, tracing the development of film production in Israel as well as the relationship between film and society.Prereq: English 1110. Not open to students with credit for 2245 or JewshSt 2245 or 3245. GE VPA and diversity global studies course. Cross-listed in JewshSt. Class Notes: From the battlefield to ultra-religious communities, from dancing gangsters to secret agents, this course will analyze how Israeli films represent Israeli life and society, screening a series of a great films from the 1930s to the present. All films have English subtitles, no familiarity with Hebrew or Israel expected. This course will be taught asynchronously online, with optional weekly discussions with the professor online and in-person.
