LPHI 3049 - Foucault:Sexuality,Ethics,and Politics

Description
During the final stages of his career, Michel Foucault often described his overall project as a history of the present. The History of Sexuality, the last of his published works, was an attempt to write the history of the experience of sexuality of his times. In this course, will use Foucault's conceptual framework and his work on the history of sexuality in order to acquire a better understanding of our own present experience of sexuality, 35 years later. While our primary sources will be works by Foucault, we shall also read authors like Freud, Nietzsche, Marx, Sontag, de Beauvoir, and contemporary journal articles.
