SOC 23800 - Sociology of Gender

What is gender and how do we make sense of it? This course will offer students an overview of the various ways social scientists describe how societies think about and are built on gender and gender differences. The first half of the course will introduce some of the main frameworks used to define and explain gender in sociology and social science research. The second half of the course will focus more specifically on discussing gender-based issues and topics such as intersectionality, sexuality, masculinity and gender-based violence.
