SOC 465 - Social Aspects of Mental Health

Description
A survey of the role of social environment and life experiences in mental health and mental disorder, focusing on the link between social inequality and emotional inequality. Topics include the social construction of mental illness and the classification process, social distribution of mental health, explanations of mental health differences. Special emphasis on adolescent and adult traumas that shape the life course. Prerequisite: SOC 300
