CHS 150 - Foundations of Human Services Counseling

Description
The course provides an overview of the careers in human services and explores the values and attitudes that promote understanding of human services ethics. Major emphasis is placed on students’ awareness of their own values, personalities, reaction patterns, interpersonal styles, and limitations through self-reflection and experiential exercises. Students will acquire knowledge and skills, including 10 hours of field education, utilized in the human services counseling process. They will have the opportunity to practice these skills through role-plays, and other peer exercises. Class Notes: This class is listed for synchronous online instruction. Students are expected to be online during the specific days and times listed on the schedule. Attendance is required for all scheduled meetings, and though this class is entirely online, students are expected to be available at the specific days and times the course meets, with reliable Internet connection and devices capable of responding in real time to instructor questions and assigned work. Requirement Designation: Regular Liberal Arts.
