Fundamentals of the synthesis of materials. Principles of synthesis; processes, approaches, synthetic methodology and probes; methodologies in materials synthesis; polymerization, sol-gel processes, liquid and vapor phase synthesis, materials coupling reactions, and precursor-derived, radiation-induced and asymmetric synthesis. Course Information: 3 undergraduate hours. 3 graduate hours. Prerequisite: MSE 201; credit or concurrent registration in MSE 401.
