ITAL 009 - It for Span&Romance Lang Speak

Description
This intensive Italian language course, designed for native or proficient speakers of Spanish or another romance language, covers in one semester materials usually taught in two semesters in Basic and Intermediate Italian. The course provides an accelerated introduction to Italian, allowing students who successfully complete it to enroll in Advanced Italian I. As in other Italian language courses, attention is devoted to the four skills of speaking, understanding, reading, and writing. Aspects of Italian history, culture, and contemporary life are also introduced through readings, listening materials, videos and films and through the use of language technologies. The general objectives are to provide students with basic tools for oral and written communication in Italian, but also to offer them the opportunity to learn about Italian culture and life and to reflect about intercultural differences and similarities. This course is specifically designed with the needs and strengths of Spanish speaking students in mind, so that the similarities between the two languages can be used to promote specific learning paths.

Professor Tosi's class is easy: as long as you do all the assignments, you get an A. He goes through the textbook really fast and doesn't spend much time on vocabulary and grammar, so if you genuinely want to learn the language, do extra work outside class. He is a nice approachable guy, so talk to him after class: it can help more than his class.

A genuinely nice guy who really wants all of his students to do well. Plus, he's absolutely crazy in a hilarious, endearing way, which is great for making the hour-long classes feel less like work and more like entertainment. If you have a solid background in another romance language-or even if you dont-you'll breeze through this class no problem.
