This course provides an overview of the U.S. financial system. We analyze the financial decision problems faced by individuals, firms, financial institutions, and the government. These decisions when aggregated determine equilibrium prices including interest rates and stock prices, and the allocation of funds. The course material is relevant for (i) personal financial decisions, such as investment portfolio choices and saving for retirement, (ii) financial decisions by businesses such as their financial structure (debt versus equity), (iii) financial instruments issued by financial institutions, and (iv) the role of public policies such as monetary, fiscal policies and financial regulations in dealing with and preventing financial crises. We also examine the potential impacts and benefits of fin-tech on these activities.">
