Identity & Globalization in Contemporary Arabic Writing (Course taught in English). "This course has the following objectives: 1. To define and interpret the concept of globalization in general and to examine how it has been interpreted in the Arab world. 2. To clarify the link between globalization and identity by studying the impact of globalization on Arab societies. While globalization is welcomed in some parts of the Arab world, it is often perceived as detrimental to Arab identity and culture. 3. To analyze the implication of this concept on Arabic thought through socio-political and philosophical articles as well as through novels. 4. To compare Arabic writing on globalization and identity to some seminal texts of western culture on the same topic."
