ENGL 3008 - Tpc: Black Feminist Discourse

Description
This course will explore black feminist theory, arts, and writing in the United States and abroad. We will look at writings from Sojourner Truth through today, focusing on issues unique to the black women's experience in the U.S. and across the world. We will look at philosophical discourse, creative writings, music, visual art, and film. We will discuss inclusion and intersectionality in feminist circles of the past and present. Finally, we will address whether such a discourse should continue and how to reconcile the unique needs of black feminism with the broader feminist goals and needs. Prerequisite: ENGL 1200
