THIS COURSE IS DESIGNED TO HELP STUDENTS DEVELOP AWARENESS OF SELF AND THE USE OF SELF TO EMPOWER OTHERS IN SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE. THE STUDENT WILL EXAMINE HIS/HER IDENTITY, INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP SKILLS, PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS, STYLES OF COMMUNICATION, AND VALUE SYSTEM. AN EMPHASIS WILL BE PLACED ON HELPING STUDENTS EXAMINE THEIR OWN BIASES AND PREJUDICES IN AREAS OF HUMAN DIVERSITY, SUCH AS RACE/ETHNICITY, GENDER, AGE RELIGION, SEXUAL ORIENTATION AND POLITICAL ORIENTATION. IN ADDITION, PERSONALITY ATTRIBUTES AND COMMUNICATION STYLES WILL BE VIEWED AS FORMS OF HUMAN DIVERSITY. Enrollment Requirements: This section is limited to Pre-Social Work Majors Only.
