ROMST 826S - Contemporary Genre Fiction: The Global Novel

Description
This course examines the emergence of novels in various parts of the globe that address a readership beyond their respective nations or regions of origins, sometimes even beyond the novelist's national language. Under the heading of "Contemporary Genre Fiction," we will look particularly at adaptations and transformations of sub-genres of the novel in different contexts. Among the genres we will consider are: detective novel; science fiction;novel of manners; romance; historical and philosophical novel. Instructor consent required.
