CE 313 - Biogeochemical Earth Systems Science

Description
[Cross-listed with EV 313, BY 313] This course will investigate the key concepts and principles of environmental science emphasizing the earth's biogeochemical cycles and how they have been perturbed by human activities. Quantitative analysis or air, soil and water quality on local, regional and global scales will be a significant component of the course. Emerging principles in environmental science, including sustainability, industrial ecology, risk assessment and the precautionary principle will be introduced. In addition to the quantitative aspects, the course will consider the historical, social, and political contexts in which the practice of environmental science takes place. Enrollment Requirements: Prerequisites: CM132 (or CM104), or consent of the instructor. Requirement Designation: Technology.
