Description
Drinking alcohol and the social practices associated with its consumption are integral aspects of personal, group and cultural identities around the globe. This course examines anthropological approaches to the study of alcohol and identity by focusing on drinking cultures and their roles in the construction of national, ethnic, class, gender, local and other identities in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa. It also explores how various forms of the consumption of alcohol are affected by processes of globalization.
