PSYCH 290Q - Seminars: Cognition

None Class Notes: Cognitive Development for Computer Scientists The problems at the cutting edge of current AI research are exactly the problems that psychologists studying cognitive development have been thinking about for the last few decades: How can we build agents that recognize objects, form concepts, learn language, and reason about the mental states of others? This seminar will alternate between presentations of the latest understanding of children’s cognitive development and the most recent ideas in AI, with each topic being covered by a different faculty member from psychology, linguistics, or computer science. The goal is for computer scientists to learn about relevant ideas from human cognitive development, and for psychologists, linguists, and cognitive scientists to get a handle on some contemporary methods and questions in AI.
