GBBL 631 - Early Judaism: The Writings and the Dead Sea Scrolls

Description
This course examines the Dead Sea Scrolls, the biblical books, and extra-biblical resources produced by the Jews of the Persian, Greek, and Roman periods. These sources demonstrate the processes involved in establishing post-exilic Jewish communities, authoritative texts, synagogue and home rituals, social practices, and interpretive discourses, which form a foundation for the early Jesus movement, the New Testament, Christianity, rabbinic Judaism, and the Judaisms of today. Enrollment Requirements: GBBL 511.
