History THE COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES 173 This course will examine the way in which Americans worked to reform the nation in the wake of the Civil War. It will focus on varying opinions and experiences of different Americans, black and white, men and women, North and South, East and West. We will place the South within a national context, describing how political events and social movements in the North and West shaped Reconstruction.
