MUSIC 401 - Styles: Post-Tonal Music

Description
An extensive survey of post-tonal music from early Stravinsky to the present time. The course will concern successors to the major-minor key system, including atonality, polytonality, Viennese serialism, midcentury developments such as minimalism, event-based music, chance music, and the belief that all sound, including silence, is music. Prerequisites: MUSIC*201 and MUSIC*287. Distribution Requirements: QR, SB.
