MUSIC 286 - History I: Greece-1750

Description
An extensive survey of music from the ancient Greeks through the Baroque era, culminating with J.S. Bach. The course explores the historical sequence and the cultural contexts in which the various styles developed. Students undertake intensive audible and visual score study as well as readings from a variety of sources. Special emphasis is placed on the transitions between eras. Prerequisite: MUSIC*188 or placement by diagnostic exam. Distribution Requirements: HE, IP.
