MUSIC 102 - Intro to World Music Cultures

Description
An exploration of the history and development of music from cultures around the world as a way to better understand the lives of the people who developed and expanded these musical traditions. Students encounter a variety of musical cultures outside the Western art music tradition, including those from Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Students engage in deep listening, examine the connection between music and religious, political, social, and cultural identity, and occasionally perform or create music with the help of visiting artists. No musical experience is necessary. Prerequisite: none Distribution Requirements: HE, IP.
