A study of theories, themes and guiding concepts that frame scholarship in Multicultural Education. Seminar discussions focus on critical race theory, global diversity, privilege, socio-economic status, and hip-hop pedagogy. Students participate in a community engagement component, testing theories through observations of actual classrooms and in interactions with community partners in Crawford County. This course is useful for students who are interested in graduate programs in education, social justice issues in K-12 education, and careers in teaching. Prerequisite: EDUC*100 or COMJ*160.
