ART 171 - Photography I

Description
An introduction to photography as a potent form of artistic visual communication. Contemporary and historical trends, techniques, and thematic content are covered, with an emphasis on proficiency with craft. Hands-on assignments, readings, lectures, and discussions provide a broad survey of image analysis strategies, help students learn technical basics, make informed choices about materials and processes, and articulate their own creative ideas. The course requires a 35 mm film camera with manually adjustable apertures and shutter speeds. Distribution Requirements: HE, ME.
